Why choose to visit Luambe National Park?

Remote and secluded, Luambe offers a tranquil retreat far from the beaten tourist routes, where visitors can immerse themselves in the untouched beauty of the African wilderness. Five reasons to visit Luambe National Park include:

/ 01

Untouched Wilderness

Luambe National Park remains a pristine sanctuary, untouched by the usual tourist routes, offering a secluded and tranquil retreat for nature enthusiasts. Situated between the larger South and North Luangwa national parks, it provides an authentic and unspoiled safari experience, allowing visitors to have the freedom and experience of having an entire National Park to themselves.

As a smaller and more secluded piece of the Luangwa Valley, not only do visitors escape the crowded, more tourist heavy areas of South Luangwa, they also get to experience what the Luangwa valley was like in the days of the early explorers.

/ 02

Rich Wildlife Diversity

Luambe offers a wide variety of wildlife species, including elephants, hippos, crocodiles, buffalos, antelope unique to the Luangwa valley, Thornicrofts giraffe, leopard, lion, hyena and occasionally, wild dog. Luambe National Park also boasts incredible birdlife and all this natural life is supported due to the remarkable biodiversity and variety of habitat on offer in the park. While the numbers of lions and leopards may not match those of South Luangwa, sightings improve each season and when we do see the cats, we have the sighting to ourselves! Another major bonus about Luambe Camp is witnessing the interaction and behaviour of up to 700 hippos congregating in the deep pool below Luambe Camp alone is an unforgettable experience.

/ 03

Sleepouts and Trails

Due to exclusive access to Luambe National Park, we are able to offer 2 very unique highlights for the Luangwa Valley. These include our signature sleepout on the banks of the Luangwa and our 2 walking trails (the Luxury Trail and the more rustic Wilderness Trail). Both these experiences compliment Luambe Camp and its regular activities like walking safaris, game drives and visits to the Hippo hide or carmine bee-eaters in season.

/ 04

Birdwatchers Paradise

Luambe National Park is renowned for its exceptional birdlife, attracting avid birdwatchers from around the globe. With superb colonies of carmine bee-eaters in September and October providing endless entertainment for birders and photographers being a highlight. The park offers a unique opportunity to observe and photograph a diverse array of birds species in a variety of habitats and this is enhanced by the seasonal hides we build each year.

/ 05

Conservation and Sustainability

Engage in responsible tourism and support conservation efforts by visiting Luambe National Park. As one of Zambia's oldest protected areas, Luambe is committed to preserving its pristine ecosystems and wildlife populations.
