This is an “all in – Africa under your fingernails’ experience. We strongly recommend leaving all modern technology behind at camp so that you can truly immerse yourself in this wilderness experience from the moment your trail begins.

Are you able to rough it?

The focus is not on luxury at all – it’s about great guiding, entering the natural world as a participant as opposed to an observer and having miles and miles of the Luangwa Valley to yourself to explore.

Switch off the schedule

A wilderness trail is not a race. The pace is set to match the comfort and capabilities of each individual trail group. That being said, you will need to carry all of your own kit, including food for the entire trail. A comprehensive kit list will be provided before your arrival.

The Luangwa Wilderness trail is defined by its simplicity.

Participants carry everything they need for the multi-day walking safari with them in a backpack. With a typical duration of 3 nights, the pace of each trail is unique to the capabilities and interests of the trail group – with the intensity of the sun and water availability being the only governing elements. Days are spent exploring the wonders of nature with an experienced guide/facilitator and National Park’s Scout. Nights are spent under the stars, as each participant takes their turn to relish the solitary serenity that comes with night watch. With no fixed infrastructure, camps or tents, each walking route is unique with no group following the same path as the next.

Summary of Day 1

Arrival in South Luangwa

When you arrive in Mfuwe, you will be met at the airport and transported to one of our partner lodges for a relaxing night in the wilderness surrounding South Luangwa National Park.

You will enjoy a delightful afternoon game drive, welcome dinner at the lodge and have a restful night’s sleep before your big adventure begins tomorrow!

Summary of Day 2 - 4

Travel to Luambe NP and begin the Walking Trail

After a tasty breakfast, you will depart from South Luangwa to Luambe National Park. The drive will take you through the celebrated Nsefu Sector of South Luangwa National Park – keep an eye out for the Grey Crowned Crane feeding area along the way!

Upon arrival at Luambe Camp, the Luambe team will warmly welcome you; camp management will provide you with a relaxed briefing over a tasty high tea and once you are ready, you will embark on your wilderness trail. Begin your trail from camp with your expert guide and National Park’s Scout. Step into Luambe’s untamed wilderness and share space with its small and tall inhabitants. Explore the diverse array of habitats, reflect in moments of stillness and reconnect with a human experience long forgotten by the Western world.

Summary of Day 5 & 6

Return to Luambe for your final night

Enjoy a breath-taking sunrise before heading off on your final walk of the trail. A bush brunch in the shade of one of Luambe’s magnificent trees will mark the end of your trail. Return to Luambe Camp for an afternoon of relaxation and reflection.

Rejuvenate with the lodge’s amenities, share stories with fellow trail blazers, and savour a delicious dinner.

On Day 6, you will bid farewell to the lodge and the captivating landscapes of Luambe National Park as you depart for the drive back to Mfuwe – taking with you cherished memories of your adventure in the remote Zambian wilderness.
